Brief summary

I am a licensed psychological psychotherapist. I offer psychotherapy in both English and German.

What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?

„Tiefenpsychologisch fundierte Psychotherapy,“ which roughly translates to psychodynamic therapy, aims to understand the subconscious mechanisms that impact your feelings, actions, and thoughts. By exploring past experiences, unresolved conflicts, and underlying patterns, this approach helps bring hidden emotions to the surface, fostering deeper self-awareness and lasting personal growth. Every psychotherapy is different. There is no strict procedure. Rather, psychodynamic therapy tries to help you walk your own path.

Procedure and Costs

.

First, we make an appointment for an initial consultation after prior contact by email/telephone/via online portals. We will then discuss the further course of treatment.

The costs for psychotherapy in my practice are based on the current version of the fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP, version 2024). You can find an overview of the fee schedule here. The exact costs vary depending on the case, but range from 134-170€ per hour of treatment. The psychotherapeutic consultation, in which we look together at whether psychotherapy is 1. generally useful for you and 2. can be carried out in my practice, currently costs €134.06.

The costs are usually covered by your private health insurance. You can ask your insurance company about this before our appointment. Before our therapy begins, I will provide you with a detailed list of the costs involved.

Whether regular psychotherapy in my practice is covered by your health insurance depends on two main factors:

  • Your insurance (private or public)
  • The presence of a mental illness according to ICD-10/ICD-11 (we will clarify this in the initial consultation)

Private insurance

The costs are usually covered in full or in part. Important: If possible, please find out before our first appointment to what extent your private health insurance will cover the therapy costs (in full or in part). It is also important to find out whether separate applications need to be submitted for trial sessions (introductory appointments) and the actual psychotherapy.

Public insurance

People with public health insurance may be able to be treated via the so-called Kostenerstattungsverfahren. This usually involves submitting an informal application in which you explain that you have not been offered a place in a GKV therapists practice via the KV Berlin appointment service. You will need a so-called certificate of urgency from a psychotherapist or general practitioner licensed by the public health insurance. This should state that you urgently need psychotherapy but that there is no space available in the practice. In addition, you often need an informal list with >10 refusals from practices that are licensed by the statutory health insurance.

For group psychotherapy (3-9 participants), people with public health insurance are currently also eligible, although capacity is very limited. No reimbursement of costs is necessary here. The costs are then covered by your statutory health insurance. Billing is handled by the “Magdeburg Training Institute for Psychotherapeutic Psychology”.

Allowances

People who are entitled to allowances, such as teachers, can usually be treated in the practice in combination with private health insurance. Please find out in advance whether your health insurance will cover the costs in full or in part.

Self payment

You will be treated without the knowledge of an insurance company. You will receive an invoice from me at the end of each month, which you pay yourself. The advantages of this approach are a fast, unbureaucratic process and the fact that no official institution is informed of a diagnosis if you do not wish to be.
